Organizational Statement: The Whale Center of New England was founded in 1980 to study the whales using waters off the Massachusetts coast. A pre-eminent research institution, its 25 years of field-based studies, utilizing individual identification markings for detailed behavioral studies, are the basis for many published scientific articles by WCNE's staff, the development of educational materials, and involvement in conservation efforts involving marine animals and their habitat. The Whale Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
