The Whale Center of New England publishes its illustrated newsletter, FLUKEPRINTS, each quarter. It can be described as an 'informal journal' of the Whale Centers's ongoing efforts, and enables Whale Center members to stay on top of regional whale issues.
FLUKEPRINTS provides articles of interest involving current whale research, conservation and policy. Examples of article topics include:
- The persistent problem of whale entanglements in fishing gear;
- Current sightings of humpback whales and other cetaceans in our study area;
- Recovering whale populations and implications for whaling decisions;
- Results of long-term dolphin research conducted by WCNE;
- Efforts to make Jeffreys Ledge part of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.
The newsletter includes spectacular photos and interesting information regarding these animals and the vital North Atlantic Ocean habitats they utilize, such as:
- Stellwagen Bank;
- Jeffreys Ledge;
- Massachusetts Bay;
- the Gulf of Maine.
